Rami Qahwaji is Professor of Visual Computing. He is originally trained as an Electrical Engineer and had MSc in Control and Computer Engineering. He received PhD in Computer Vision Systems in 2002 from the University of Bradford and then joined the School of Informatics as a new Lecturer. His research interests include: 2D/3D image processing, machine learning and the design of machine vision systems with proven track record in the fields of solar/satellite imaging, medical imaging, data visualisation and applied data mining working with medical and industrial collaborators. He has raised over million pounds in funding from EPSRC, EU FP7, NHS, ERDF, Yorkshire Forward, China-UK Science Bridges and more.

He has over 100 refereed publications including 5 edited books, 10 book chapters, 32 journal papers, and over 70 invited talks and conference presentations and publications. He has supervised 17 completed PhD projects, with another 4 currently in train. He is Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), Charted Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of various professional organisations, and has refereed research proposals for various national and international funding bodies. He has acted as external examiner for more than 10 national and international universities and has a US patent. He is heavily involved in the organisation of international conferences.
